Kinship Connections is a peer to peer mentoring program that engages high school and college students in a one-on-one mentoring relationship with a 3rd-7th grade student. There are three individual programs: 3rd-4th Grade Connections, 5th-6th Grade Transitions and 5th-7th Grade Connections. Depending on the age and group, partners work on building prosocial skills, work on transitioning into the middle school and teen years or finding one’s own “SPARK” to encourage and develop life-long learning skills.
High School and College students are given opportunities to become leaders of the whole group and positive role models for their individual buddy and the cast of young participants. Activities are centered around positive social skills yet each pair has choices on what they want to participate in each week. Groups meet for 1 ½ - 2 hours a week while school is in session.
